The MediaTek Helio G88 is an octa-core processor that was announced in June 2021. It is manufactured in a 12 nm FinFET process and integrates 8 CPU cores. Two fast ARM Cortex-A75 cores with up to 2 GHz for performance tasks and six small ARM Cortex-A55 with up to 1.8 GHz for efficiency. All eight cores can be used together thanks to Heterogeneous Multi-Processing support. The integrated GPU is an ARM Mali-G52 MC2 (MP2) with two clusters at up to 1000 MHz (up from 950 MHz from the otherwise similar Helio G80). It supports up to 90Hz display.

The Helio G88 is designed for gaming smartphones and is capable of running demanding games at smooth frame rates. It also supports MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite, which is a suite of gaming features that improve performance, reduce latency, and provide a more immersive gaming experience.

In terms of benchmarks, the Helio G88 performs well. It scores 300,000+ on AnTuTu (close to Helio G99 Antutu), which is comparable to other mid-range processors. It also scores well in gaming benchmarks, such as GFXBench and 3DMark.

In terms of real-world gaming performance, the Helio G88 is capable of running most popular Android games at smooth frame rates. I tested it with a number of games, including PUBG Mobile, Call of Duty Mobile, and Asphalt 9 Legends. All of these games ran smoothly at mid-high settings.

The Helio G88 also supports MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite, which is a suite of gaming features that improve performance, reduce latency, and provide a more immersive gaming experience. HyperEngine 2.0 Lite includes features such as:

  • Smart Multi-Frame Scheduling: This feature intelligently manages the CPU and GPU resources to ensure smooth frame rates even in demanding games.
  • Wi-Fi/LTE Latency Optimization: This feature reduces latency between the smartphone and the internet, which improves gaming performance.
  • Game Voice Call Boost: This feature prioritizes voice calls over other applications, which ensures that you don’t miss important calls while gaming.
  • Game Freeze Frame: This feature allows you to pause a game and resume it later without losing your progress.

Overall, the Helio G88 is a good processor for gaming. It performs well in benchmarks and real-world gaming tests. It also supports MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite, which is a suite of gaming features that improve performance, reduce latency, and provide a more immersive gaming experience. If you are looking for a smartphone that can handle demanding games, the Helio G88 is a good option.
