As of October 26, 2023, only one smartwatch has the capability of measuring blood sugar non-invasively, the Huawei Watch D. The Apple Watch does not currently have this capability, but Apple is rumored to be working on a non-invasive blood sugar monitoring feature for future models.

What is non-invasive blood sugar monitoring?

Non-invasive blood sugar monitoring is a process of measuring blood sugar without drawing blood. This can be done using a variety of methods, such as optical spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy.

How does the Huawei Watch D measure blood sugar?

The Huawei Watch D uses optical spectroscopy to measure blood sugar. It does this by shining a light on the skin and then measuring the amount of light that is reflected back. The amount of light that is reflected back is affected by the blood sugar level, so the watch can use this information to calculate a blood sugar reading.

When will the Apple Watch be able to measure blood sugar?

Apple is rumored to be working on a non-invasive blood sugar monitoring feature for future Apple Watch models. However, there is no official word from Apple on when this feature will be available.

Other smartwatches that may measure blood sugar in the future

In addition to the Huawei Watch D, a number of other smartwatches are in development that may be able to measure blood sugar non-invasively in the future. These include the K’Watch Glucose and the Dexcom G6 smartwatch app.

Conclusion

While the Apple Watch does not currently have the capability of measuring blood sugar non-invasively, it is possible that future models will have this feature. In the meantime, there are a few other smartwatches on the market or in development that may be able to measure blood sugar non-invasively.
